View Full Version : Minor 380 upgrade(s)
Hi Guys
I have been searching through the forum for the following two upgrades:
#1: 90mm Air Intake Snorkel from Galant
#2: (nice sounding) exhaust
------
As far as the snorkel is concerned I tried two websites ,previously suggested in the forum, being http://www.oemmitsubishiparts.com/ and http://www.rchillmitsubishi.com but the $15 item is being shipped for $60 which sounds a bit weird.
Can you guys suggest any other place(s) where I can buy this.
For the exhaust, any suggestions are welcome.
(I can see that Berklee muffler (BS0665) is a famous selection).
Cheers

If you're after a Berklee BS0655 (not BS0665), barely used at well less than normal retail, I have two for sale, see this thread [FS] TreeAdeyMan's gigantic muffler sale! (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=99802&pagenumber=)
There was another seller of the Galant 90mm intake snorkel around for many years, in SA, named Selkirk 555 or similar IIRC, but I can't find him on Fleabay any more.

Hey! I was looking for the exact same thing - musta read my mind.
I bought the 90mm Galant or (TMR 380) intake snorkel off eBay, a guy in Adelaide (I think) is selling them, something like $90 shipped to Melbourne.
As for the exhaust, I'd love something that would give me a little extra performance, and be a bit louder too :P
I don't mind getting second-hand, but any places in Melbourne you could recommend to get it fitted?

+1 on the Berklee, took the advice of the guys on here and LOVE IT! Quiet (but with a distinct purr) when it should be, with a little beef when it should be, it's a very nice sounding muffler, if you come to a meet in vic (I'll be at the monthly next week) you can hear it for yourself.

Thanks for the info TreeAdeyMan. I will have a look at M4DDOG's muffler and will contact you.

If it's possible at all, can you pass on the details of the 90mm intake seller. I might consider paying a bit extra for faster delivery compared to being shipped from US.

It seems the listing has ended - hopefully he'll put some more up soon!

The air snorkel was delivered yesterday and I installed it today.
Took me an hour to file the edges down and fit in the snorkel.
After installing, the sound has definitely changed, it more deeper and at the exhaust, sound has a lot more "bass".
I am checking for the effective on fuel economy and will upload the video soon so you guys can judge the sound for yourself.

Oh sweet, yeah same with me, except I could find a file so I took to it with a jigsaw hahaha!
Yeah, I don't know what it is with my car but it ruined my fuel economy! I have a pretty heavy sub box in my boot so I figure that might be why
Yeah.. Try to keep the car as light as possible.
Try to keep the car as light as possible (It weighs 1.6ton as it is).
Also so far the fuel economy for city-type driving with a but of lead-foot pickups is showing slightly over 8l/100km.
Previously it was 6l/100km, more or less.
(Trying to decrease the video file size so it can be uploaded)

You wont get anywhere near 6l/100 in a 380 on the highway let alone the city mate

Just FYI guys, the 90mm intake is available again on eBay for $54.95 + shipping from SA

My bad, confused my self with the units :ninja:
What I meant was 6 (km/l) to 8 (km/l) transition in city.
Used to get about 13.2l/100km on highway, hopefully that's better now as well

There is something seriously wrong with that figure - anything over 10l/100km for motorway or regional highway driving is a cause for concern.

Does that mean I need to check some thing in the car.
Got it serviced about 3K km ago, essentially oil change and such.

on a recent 1100km trip my 380 avg'd 8.2L/100km sitting on 110kph, car fully loaded not much overtaking though.
around town it hovers 13.9-14L/100km

yep mine averages 12.5L/100km around town with odd launch on LPG injected system has 90mm galant snorkel and KN filter plus Berklee BSO655
long cruise open road never got better than 9.5L/100km average on LPG sitting on 110kph no better on petrol.

Are you sure your figures arent 6-8 km/l? This would mean about 12-16 l/100km. 13 km/l would be close to 8l/100km. These figures seem reasonable.
Yup I am sure about these figures. The city driving comes down to 12l/100km for me.
It has improved somewhat for me. I am hoping that highway driving would be better. Will know more about it during the Mornington Cruise Day. ;)
