Hi To all, this is my first time here.
My TP Magna has developed an over revving problem especialy when the engine is hot. When I start it up it revs to around 2000rpm and gradualy decreases to around 800 to 1100rpms. While driving the car it feels like it's buzzing like a bee but amplified by a 1000 times. When stationary with engine running the steering whell vibrates and it also vibrates while driving, had a wheel aligment done on it also had the rear engine mount replaced to no avail. I didn't think it would be the wheels as I know what that feels like when it's out of ballance. This is driving me crazy as normaly the Magna is quite and comfortable car to drive. If anyone had a similar problem I would love to hear what the remedies are.

Firstly:

is it a carby or efi car?
auto or manual?

wen does it idle up to 2000? when u first get into it in the morning and start it up ready to go to school/uni/work? this is the car wanting to warm up. mine used to idle up to 1500/2000 sometimes wen it was a cold morning. my car is a carby manual TM. after driving it for 5 minutes or so the idle went back to normal which is around 750rpm for a manual car. (850rpm for an auto in N)

there is no real remedy as it is normal. if ur car idles at 1000 wen it is at normal operating temperature (temp guage inside usually sits at 1/4-1/2), providing it is carby, u will need to find the idle screw at the rear of the carb. if u have a gregorys or haynes workshop booklet u could check it out in there to c exactly where it is. but it is a small knob that sticks out from the rear of the carb. while at normal operating temperature, turn the knob (whichever way that makes the idle go down) until the idle sits at 750 for manual or 850 for auto (while in neutral for both)

if ur car is efi, im not too sure how to adjust the idle on these as my car isnt efi so either someone else could post here to let u know or perhaps u could go out and get a gregorys or haynes manual. they sell them at supercheap for around $15 i think. they do help alot with simple things like this, and do have some pictures to help u.

oh, and welcome to AMC! there is also a 1st gen section that u can post 1st gen questions in. (ur TP being a 1st gen just like the TM and TN magnas) enjoy the forum :D

The buzzing and vibration sounds like a power steering problem. The Idle Speed Control motor also makes a buzzing noise at times - could be faulty and would explain your idling problem.

Could also be Mr. Throttle cable. The vibrations may also be a balance shaft not working properly too.

Thanks for the opinion ppl, it is an EFI I have it booked for next week at the mechanics.
I can just imagine what the repair cost will be, anyway all the best to everyone.

to change the idle on an efi theres a philips head screw just behind the efi box thing at the back of the engine bay, also could it also be the throttle position sensor?

My car seems to be getting from bad to worse. This afternoon after coming home from a soccer match ( my son ) the car was fine. A couple of hours later I wanted to go to the shops and when I turned the key to start the engine nothing happened, the electric fuel pump was making a noise but nothing else happened. All the lights were working so there was power. I got a friend to come and have a look at it which took about 2 hours, when he arrived and turned the key the bloody thing started.
I am getting to the stage of seriously considering upgrading to a later model magna as since november 03 I have replaced the engine, transmission, power steering pump and hose, alternator, valve stem seals, timing chain ,cat converter and rear struts.
Alternator I can live with, along with the struts ( wear and tear )
Anyway I had my minute of whinging and complaining
