View Full Version : service advise needed Gold Coast
hail to all Magna owners who i believe have made the smartest choice in Australia.
i've joined the family by purchasing a Magna TJ 2000, at a nice 123k kms 7 months ago.
Trouble is, even though i'm 38.. this is my first car ever :ninja:
have been driving since 1991, but never owned a car.. so i dont really know much about DIY and all that.
i am currently trying to find a reliable shop to get my services done " at least for the time being, while i learn more "
i live near harbour town, and currently trying to decide between two shops that are very close to me
1 - Ultra Tune harbour town
2- Midas harbour town.
does anyone have experience with these shops?
what would you advise?
thank you

i've joined the family by purchasing a Magna TJ 2000, at a nice 123k kms 7 months ago.
Both shops should be able to do engine oil and filter changes.
But I'd check the log book to see if major services have been done. A lot of people do major services like the cam belt on a distance rather than time basis, and if they plan to sell the car often skip the expensive major services. So find out what needs doing first.
according to the logbook, major stuff have already been done, spark plug, timing belt.. (log book looks legit, but i still keep the benefit of doubt)
the car has been driven extremely little..
i work from home, in last 7 months i only did 9 thousand kms. (2k of it from an outback trip)
but timewise, the service was already due 3 months ago, kms wise it became due 3k ago.. as i drive so little, i sort of neglected, and constantly throwing off the decision to tomorrow, i got quite far :) so its time to take action
this should be a relatively easy service, i think my brake pads need replacing though.. they sort of squeak when i brake hard, or if there are 4 people in the car.
since i know very little about what has been done to the car in the past, i want the first service to be done by a reliable and experienced shop, that wont charge me an arm and leg, and go thru the car to inspect all round.
engine runs very smooth, car drives perfectly fine apart from the brake concern. but it did lose a bit of power during the past 5 months.. i think filters and all that.. oil though still very clean both transmission and engine.

Shane at Coolangatta Automotive, Did his apprenticeship on the 3rd gen through a Mitsi dealer and is very clever with them and also very reasonably priced as well, He will tell you what needs what and when it needs it and be honest about it. I have been using him when i was working in car yards and sending my own cars there for the last 10 years. His number is 07 55 36 22 35 and he is at 17 Appel St Coolangatta. If you tell him that Tania from A1 Tweed Detailing sent you he will look after you

Take it to any of those shops, and ask them to do an oil and filter change. Ask them for an underbody and brake inspection too, doesn't take long once it is up on the hoist.
Service interval for my Magnas is 12 months or 15,000 km on the oil and filter change, most people do them more often. I have too many cars, usually they only do 5,000 km in a year. lol
thank you for all the advise gents / ladies.
i will consider the closer shops for the time being due to convenience.
