AMC,

thought i might as well get this straight out there,

tonight while driving thru a booze bus, the police told me to turn my parkers off, which on a KF verada, sit on the front bar below the headlights. my response was, I can't as they are on while the headlights are on. turning my lights on and off, to show them, i was told that this is unroadworthy. telling them that it is how it came from the factory they

So my question is, is this true?
and if it is, does every KF verada have these lights always on?

puzzled and thankful.

They are on while the headlights are on, and independently as parkers alone. Thats the way parkers are supposed to function (as opposed to (LED) DRLs which must turn off when headlights are on)
They were designed like that from factory and passed ADR like that.
Entirely legal.

Those cops are stupid. Every 3rd gen verada comes factory with parkers in the corners on your front bumpers. There is no problem. If a cop pulls you up for it. You have no problem whatsoever. Unless he had pointed to your foggies and you hadn't realised. In that case that can be turned off. But I doubt that's the case.

Thats exactly what i thought, otherwise every verada would be unroadworthy and mitsu would have had to do some sort of recall to sort it out back in the day? (probably just overreacting)

I never actually thought of the foglights or DRLs until you guys mentioned it then :)

Were they talking about the driving lights in the bar?

Every car I've ever owned from a '69 Hillman Hunter to my current TJ Magna had the park lights linked to the headlights, impossible to have headlights on without parkers. Sure the rozzers weren't talking about your fog lights?

I usually dont drive with them on, but perhaps he did get confused. But i don't know. How my mates VL in front of my didn't get looked at made it all the lot worse

the parkers below the headlights in the bar that come on at first turn of the headlight stalk.

Where the foglights on when you pulled into the booze bus?

If they where not. Then he was pointing to the parkers in the corner of your bumper.

Nah they weren't on, made sure when i turned lights off to show them.

Either way, i was told to "rewire them". But that wont happen now that I know they are suppose to be like that.

Got worried he wouldn't let me drive home

Pfftt rewire. What an idiot. If you really want to piss the cops off a tiny bit. Rewire your front parkers to your indicators and visa versa. Few guys down my way have done it. I think it looks pretty mad :)

You need to contact Victoria Police or the Ombudsban and tell them what happened so that police officer can get some education before he causes someone grief. Did you get a defect notice at all?

I'm glad he didn't defect your Rada so please don't take this the wrong way .... but by the same token this is just what is wrong with police enforcement these days. By defecting your car there is no income or fine applicable so you drive away without the Yellow sticker, yet if you were .001 over the legal alcohol limit or 5kms over the speed limit you'd be hit with fines worth $$$$.

I would definitely have a chat to Ethical Standards, not so much to make a complaint but more to have that station re educated about forward lighting as Verada's are not the only car out there with separate parker lights, many cars have separate lights and even though you would not get a fine etc once you went to Vic Roads and had it removed as was not valid the inconvenience is still a PITA

The police would better using their time fining people with fog lights on when there is no fog (99% of the time) and all the retrofitted HID that blind you at night.......

That are illegal in NSW without auto levelling, washers and custom HID lenses.

But that is another topic in itself.

I didn't get a defect at all

And if I did I wouldn't have let it go right then at there to be honest.

But I didn't get his name rank or any of his details to make a solid case to the agencies, but I suppose a general email couldn't hurt ?

from the way you have worded it ,it does seem entirely right that your lights are not wired up right...

so ,are you saying ,that you dont have parkers ,independent of your headlights ,because ,thats the way it reads

Referring to the original post, did they turn off when you completely turned the headlights off? Or stayed once the headlights were switched to the off position (eg hardwired to in IGN wire or something).

Lol, local coppers around here only defect old bomb commys with their bums scraping along the ground and cars with 50000 inch rims on them.

Once the headlight were off every exterior light on the car was off

First notch on the headlight stalk the parkers come on, second notch headlights come on and parkers stay on.

Exactly how the car comes from factory if I have my facts right. Officer fails at automotive intelligence.

Unless he was confused and thougt they might have been DRLs, in which case they are meant to be on with no lights on and go off when the lights are on.

if he got them confused with drls then krakaos must have put 21W bulbs instead of 5W ones. some new cars no longer have tradditional parkers. they use a combo drl/parker LED lights which instead of turning of, goes dimmer when headlights are on.

I think they must be cracking down on drls. I've heard quite a few stories of new toyota 86s getting done for having illegal "fog lights" that are actually the drls they run, and are on all the time the lights are off. I'd say the cops mistaken them for drls. At least he didnt defect you, everybody makes mistakes - even though someone in their position really needs some better training.
