They are a buisness BB, and you will find that they all do that. The few I have worked at all overbook to get the customer in, because once its in, its stuck so its easy money. If they didn't have that many cars, when they are waiting for parts they would have nothing to work on. Sometimes its just the way it has to be, which is frustrating at best for the customer.

But doesnt it look good when you go in there and they have so many cars that they're working on they are in every nook and cranny of the workshop and car park. it makes you think that they have to be doing something right to keep all these customers... :)

It's understandable you're under stress BB. Hell I would be too man. It's hard to say anything in this situation without it sounding offensive, especially through text. But just be patient man. In the end, when you're driving the car you'll be thankful they took that extra week to get everything right and make the install look top shelf. If you need a car, I can possibly organise a lend of an old Mitsubishi L200, altho it's a fair drive down to you.

Patience is a virtue.

All i have to say is, my headers should've taken 4 days max to make... 3 1/2 weeks later it gets to hi torque for the computer install...
Again i should be getting it today if everything goes right.... nearly 3 weeks again and i still don't have it.

Mine should've been ready 3 weeks ago... but people get sick, and people quit at bad times... then things go wrong with the car.

Just part of modifying a car... best way to go about it is contact the business regularly in a polite, much better than once or twice rudely, they'll just rush your car then.

I got to she her yesterday though, **** she's hot for a car. hehe

...

At the end of the day, I shouldn't be whinging about it. There's alot I should be grateful for..... 2 kickass mechanics have put alot of hours into the car, and the build quality is fantastic. And despite how it looks here, I've always been more than polite in my dealings with the guys down there...........

...

AMEN TO THAT!

The mechanics there are ****en awesome.. Mike's always been polite and the owner says he's a top customer.. He feels bad that its taking so long.. But he doesnt want a top customer to get their car and come back within a week with something wrong!

Mike by all means.. I didn't mean to say anythin offensive in that post.. If I did.. I apologise.. I just thought I'd pass on what i've been told! To ease your mind..

Patience is a virtue.. but a virtue that Mike no longer has! :bowrofl:

Mini Update.

Car is all back together and they started it up this morning. Good news is it runs lol , and the tuner who has the day off today will get to work on it tomorrow morning. Depending on the amount of time it takes to tune, and how much notice they need to book a mod plate inspection, I might be picking it up tomorrow afternoon - or if not should definetly get it Wednesday (for the Brissy ppl - they are open Wendesday). Anyone in the area who wants to see it on the dyno - pop me a PM and I'll be able to let you know approximately what time I'll be there tomorrow.

And I might even go down this afternoon and get some pics of the engine bay for all y'all to gawk at tonight.

It'll probably be on the dyno most of the day......... and I'm sorry to disappoint - but I won't be taking a video of the car on the dyno. I don't own a video camera, and I CBF'd borrowing one for this.

Truth be told...... I'm over the whole thing. It's that much over budget it's not funny (someone in another thread is trying to work out if they can supercharge their car for half of what this project has gone over budget).

Sorry - I promised myself I wouldn't ***** about it anymore in this thread......

I just got off the phone with the tuner. Earlier this morning they managed to tune 24x HP at the wheels out of it but it was only holding 4psi boost at that stage. They've now fitted a mechanical boost controller (bleeder valve), and it's making about 200kW at the wheels holding 6psi of boost at the top end - this is with a 2.5 inch exhaust...... so there will be more gains to be had by upgrading the exhaust and going to a electronic boost controller.

Mod plate gets done tomorrow morning so I'll be driving it by tomorrow lunch time.

Never ran a 1.4 mile..... but I did run the 1/4 mile a couple of times and the best time I managed was only a 14.9. I had trap speeds which indicated the car was capable of alot quicker - but it's my first manual car, and I'd only been driving it for a couple of months at that stage.

Best power output NA was 141kW at the wheels on the same dyno it's been tuned on today.

I'd be willing to divulge details of how much this has cost to anyone who is serious about going down this path, and is willing to respect my privacy (ie: not go blabbing it to anyone).

If you think you are serious about it, and the thought of spending a 5 digit number doesn't make you whince - then send me a PM.

Can you get accurate Nm @ RPM graph from a Dyno Dynamics dyno?? I've never seen anything meaningful from one.

Power curve will be very interesting...... apparently it's comming on boost by 2000rpm, making max boost (9psi  ) at around 2500rpm and the boost is dropping down to about 6psi at the top end (around 6000rpm I'm guessing). I should have a dyno print out to post up tonight, and Sufz, I'll probably leave work in about 10-20 mins to head down there, I'll be there abit after 4pm.

well being the same type of cars with same gear box if done in the same gear, would you be able to get an idea what the difference is. can you work backwards to get an aprox Nm? i remember when dad had his car on the dyno you get a fair bit more than the motor has so guess its the gearing

Yeah - the torque is multiplied by the gearing...... in theory you could work it out if you knew the final drive and gear ratios etc.

I'd be interested to see this too.

And since power is a function of torque it will be apparent how the torque curves differ.. won't be able to get the numbers easily, but should be able to map the shape of the torque curve fairly simply.

Okay, this is how it is....... the "real" output figure is 259.4HP or 193.5kW, there was apparently a run of about 266HP which Rob accidently deleted. So in it's current format 193.5kW at the wheels is the official figure. Here's the printout:

http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l292/black_beard_2006/TT1stTune2.jpg

* the dotted line (graph on the right) is boost pressure, not torque.

Oh - I also got to take it for a drive, and now I definetly won't be sleeping tonight. I'm very very happy with the results...... power delivery is nice and constant with a truckload of mid range grunt. As you can see on the graph - but it actually makes peak power at around 5000rpm, this is something that will be easy to improve on with the addition of a proper boost controller (which was never allowed for in the project plan because I was led to believe boost control would just rely on the wastegate actuators). So yeah - the car is nice and driveable (even with the new clutch), and with the 2.5" exhaust and lack of bodykit - it looks and sounds dead stock which is pretty cool - unfortunately I will have to shatter the illusion in a few weeks when the body kit is installed.

Wonder what fuel consumption is like now.

Black Beard
16-08-2006, 08:35 AM
2 weeks pft...... I want more power NOW!!!

Okay - not really. The next thing to do will be install the bodykit and bonnet vents to help it keep cool, currently the temp seems to spike abit when you first come to a stop (traffic for example). While the thermo fans seem to be effective at keeping it from getting too hot - there is abit of a delay between when forward motion decreases, and the fans start to make a difference, and with summer fast approaching here in Qld that is a bit of a concern.

After that, the plan is; turbo timer (I'm going to get sick of letting it idle for 5mins after each drive pretty quickly), engine mounts, LSD, 3" exhaust, and proper boost controller. Roughly in that order unless something breaks.

A good electronic boost controller should allow me to manitain a nice consistant 7-8psi street tune, and in conjunction with a better flowing exhaust system the setup should easily see me into the 200+kW at the wheels bracket without any internal work.

AHEM... NAME???

And talk to PWR if your worried about temps, they might be able to modify a TT 3000gt aluminium rad for you.

grrrr..... I was trying to avoid that question lol . I've never given a car a name, and I don't intend to start with this one. And PWR gear is abit out of my budget at the moment (hell I can't even afford a cheap electronic boost controller right now).

Actually had another drive of it a couple of hours ago (mod plate still not done  ), and the temp was behaving itself perfectly, and the head mechanic took it home last night because he didn't have another car to drive and the temp wasn't a problem then either...... I'll just monitor it, and check that it isn't using water periodically.

Actually - I wanted to share a funny experience with you all which I was abit embarrassed about last night:

Driving the car yesterday afternoon must have made something in my brain malfunction. Before I left the workshop I wanted to pay another $1000 towards the bill out of my savings account using the eftpos. Swipped the card, and my mind was blank..... I coudn't remember my PIN.......... a 4 digit number which I'd known for about 4 years had somehow been erased from my memory. I spend all night trying to remember it but nothing seemed to ring a bell (I roughly knew what numbers were involved because my fingers remembered which buttons to push - but it still didn't come to me). Anyway - my ATM card was swallowed by a machine this morning after my 3rd attemt.... so it will forever remain a mystery.

I'm just worried that one day next week I'll get in the car after work and realise that I've forgotten where I live  .

grrrr..... I was trying to avoid that question lol . I've never given a car a name, and I don't intend to start with this one. And PWR gear is abit out of my budget at the moment (hell I can't even afford a cheap electronic boost controller right now).

hahaha.. nice one BB.

Just got back home. Took BB to the workshop to pickup the car. He gave me a ride in it, and ooohhh mmyyyy gooood... thank thing is a weapon.

In 3rd gear, it pulls so damn hard....

On the way home, BB and me had a bit of a go, and ****, he over took me like i was in a barina. hahahaha Of course, BB had the big grin on his face afterwards. ;)

BB, i know you spend alot of money on this car, but im sure you will not regret it after a while. Once the next paycheck comes in. You have a damn fast car now. And by the size of your grin, you lovin it. lol

ENjoy it mate and thanks for the quick ride.

All I can say is it's a hell of a handful with that clutch in it..... I don't think I'll have any engine mounts left by the end of next week if I can't learn to launch it properly.

And E, you wouldn't have noticed it but I happened to change from 2nd to 3rd next to a VR/S with 3 blokes in it on Compton Rd. They obviously heard the little hic-up of air escaping back out the pod filter, and flew up towards the next set of lights trying to get infront of me, all occupants of the car looking for the FMIC. Funniest thing is - they probably ended up comming to the conclusion that I had one of those "fake BOV whistle" thingies off Ebay :bowrofl:

Congratulations mate that is some good HP gained from the additional turbo's, what was the before and after fiqure, about 100hp? very similer from the TR going from 95odd to 171
What sort of TPS temps are you getting mate and water ? with my TR with the stainless piping it was around 14degrees on a cold night and water was around 94

a 3inch exhuast will make a huge difference bud

I think a mid to 13second pass will be achievable in its current trim mate if your suspension is nice and you got some decent wheels, most RWD's with around 200rwkw pull high 12's or low 13's

Picked up 80 odd horsepower from NA to the 6psi tune (181HP before), so yeah can't really complain...... especailly when it does his best work between 2500rpm and 5000rpm.

Don't really know what the temps are exactly, but its probably running a fair bit hotter than it could be....... the intercooler is pretty much only getting air to a 1 inch wide strip at the moment. Fitment of the Bunbury Motorsports body kit and Cosworth Sierra vents will help alot in the temp department.

Mate I reckon when you get hungry for more HP which will be soon haha drop the compression and put in copperhead gasket and run around 9-12psi on a safe rich tune you will be smashing 330fwhp easy if your injection holds up only costing around $300
I think the Magna engines handle boost pretty well if tuned right im running 10psi on my TR and she has travelled 7,500km so far on a engine experiencing 150,000km +.

I was reading a article somewhere but for every degree the air is hotter you loose a decent amount of power installing a datalogger would be handy to give you a ruff idea on whats going on

Data logo is just your hand pc which attaches to your ECU isnt to difficult, a cheap way to strenghten your engine mounts is to get some of this strong fill puddy like material costs around 20bucks for 2 tubes and just apply it to the mounts where they look destroyed. I've done it and it worked well for a temp fix ( 2 months ) before getting custom new ones. Also man be aware for the CV's to **** themselves mine did after 2 weeks so replacing them with new ones did the job I think yours will hold up longer because they havent being exposed to so many KM's

Due to the wet weather we've been having I've been having a very hard time getting the car moving without either bogging it down with not enough revs when I let the clutch out, or getting axle tramp. Both of which make the engine shake it's tits off.

Well this morning it happened, pulled a silicon hose out of the back turbo. All fixed now, just can't wait to get my h/duty engine mounts

Yeah I know, but with everything else already done to the car it's almost as far from a comfortable family car as you can get. So I might as well make it a bit more "grumpy" .

As long as it ties the engine down enough that I don't pull anymore silicone bends out. If it happens again after fitting the race spec engine mounts it'll be back to the workshop to modify the intercooler piping.

Umm, notifications of replies to this thread didn't work so good. Lol. Engine wise the car was reliable as a daily driver for about 2.5 years iirc, but in that time it lunched 2 difs which put a damper on the funds to continue working on it. Then a big career change saw me start an apprenticeship in 2009 which made it impossible to budget to do any mods. Was lucky enough to get a company car a year later and it was at that point that the car stopped being driven regularly and started collecting dust. Am only just now going thru the motions to get the car back in reliable working order and am planning on putting her up for sale shortly afterwards.

Hope that clears things up :p

Yep, car looks extremely stock....have to look really hard to see any sign of what's going on under the bonnet.

For those asking.... I'm looking at a price which would put it in the same price range as a vgc, low km TJ VRX. Sorry for not being more specific but i'd rather not name my price until i'm ready to put it up for sale.
