I was the bitch, _x_FiReStoRm_X_ did all the work - he does this stuff day in day out so was pretty easy for him, I just watched and soaked up the knowledge!
I hand scrubbed most of the engine bay - i wanted it to be as clean as possible - All 2nd gen owners know - when oil leaks - crap sticks to it and yeah, quite alot of crud came off. I'll be giving the engine bay a hand polish tomorrow to bring it up.
It wont be smooth sailing, and I'm not expecting to have it fire up for at least minimum 2 weeks but hopefully anything after that is a maybe :D

I'll be working on this from 8-8 every day for a few weeks, hopefully thats enough time! (somehow i don't think it will be) having time is the most important bit of it all really...

Probably would've been easier to fit gbox + starter motor with the engine out btw. Although my problems fitting the starter was due to my exhaust manifold.
Remember to fit a manual starter. (Probably obvious)
With the AC belt you might be able to just fit a smaller belt. Measure the length and number of ribs and repco will get you a belt that they can tension. Only fault with that is that it may foul on something without the AC pulley there.
Good to see it happening.
Also i need to get rocker cover gaskets and welsh plugs off you:cool:

cant do that then buying tose pretty belts would have been pointless
Your half right :P
Might just piss off the AC compressor totally, so i have one new 5PK blue belt here doing nothing :P
Ummm todays progress...
-installed manual half shaft and outer driveshaft
-degreased more of undercarriage
-installed starter motor...well when i say installed i mean only 1 bolt :P. Now the auto one looks like it will fit? I dont see why it wont?
-started stripping the wiring down. Cut off all the old auto plugs and left them on the trans with a bit of wire hanging out, removed the battery tray and cleaned underneath it.
just sorting out what wiring is what, this is alot easier to wire in as the 2 thicker cables (starter and alternator) are all at the front of the motor.
So tomorrow I'll be getting a few runs of 4ga and some lugs for the starter and alternator..
Also got 4L more of sound deadner to do the arches in and some of those really cool ratchet spanners :D expensive mofo's but gee they come in handy..
Now Deanimus reckons the dash has to come out to drill the holes for the CMS but I'm hoping i find a way around it for the time being...
ummmm so yeah, whole LHS side of the engine bay is just...well....roomy.....
and for some reason (minus bonnet and bumper) my car sits 1.5" higher at the front!!! what the hell!!
mmmmm so yeah didn't get that much done today as i had a small sleep in :P but tomorrow ill try to be ripping out most of the old wiring aswell as the ECU and TCU and get started on this shiz..

Well your more then welcome to come down and help me wire this in..
Don't know where to start :(
today changed the fuel filter, put on a few hoses and clamps, got rid of a few brackets I didn't need anymore, ran the manual shifter cables, ran the ECU wiring through the firewall and chopped off some more plugs I didn't need...
Now there are just wires everywhere and I'm confused as hell but bit by bit I'll sort it out i hope.
it wont start from all the paint you sprayed into it :P
I started my 3L for the first time in probably a month, had a rattle and I was like  but after a minute it went away, phew.. only wish the smoke from the valve stem seals would do the same :doubt:

Ok what i did today;
-Installed Front slotted rotors and QFM Pads
-Went to install the rears but found out they gave me ABS ones (ABS ones are vented, mine are not :doubt: )
-Ripped out all the old wiring from ECU and TCU, and started to match up the wires of the new ECU to a few components, think i got the MAF and water temp in, rest I'm sorting out..
And yeah tomorrow is a wreckers run then more wiring!
Also how do you put the speedo gear in the gearbox? like do you just sort of JAM it in there with a bit of brute force?

The ABS is prehistoric and useless unless you're a retard you don't need it.
The speedo cable should be shaped like a key way so you might have to twist it to slide the pin in. Then twist the largish thread to tighten the cover in place.

You need the earth, the 5v reference voltage and the signal output back to the ecu. The fourth wire is either for an idle circuit, or for auto trans. Either way, you dont need it. Just use the +, -, and determine which of the O or S wires is the signal.

I'd say the S is signal...But either way, if it doesn't work I'll just use the O..
Now next up i gotta figure out how the hell it connects to the ignition coils

What i did today;
Spent 3 hours re-doing all the stereo wiring while the dash was out.
Result, now looks factory, all in split loom tubing and ran along the edges, its never looked cleaner!
Then spent another hour or so wiring up the injectors and MAP sensor, very happy with the results thus far.
Also got the dash in with the help of Nemesis and tomorrow the dash should have all its little screws and bolts back together.
Tomorrow, Depending on weather or not i have to go pick up my brakes, I'll be, well either putting on my new rear brakes, or hopefully knocking down some more engine bay wiring and hose configuring :P
Its ummm slowly getting back together, but I'm at the stage now where instead of taking things off, I'm putting things back on.
Note - Getting dash back in is scary :P

Ah thats cool we had fun :D
Anyway what i got done today wasn't much but all the little things add up
-Installed the slotted rear brake disc's and Bendix ultra premium brake pads
-Bled the brake lines with PBR Gold brake fluid
-Bled clutch line
-Mounted MAP Sensor
-Finished soldering up all the wires i had to for the moment
-Figured out my little water-bar-rubbing-on-shifter-cable dilemma
This is what the fitting looked like
And as you can see it sits too close to the shifter cables at the wrong angle, and i couldnt get the clip in for that cable
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a52/dodgeviper89/Image015-1.jpg
So went for a drive to some fabrication places with Nemesis and found an angled adaptor
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a52/dodgeviper89/Image021.jpg
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a52/dodgeviper89/Image020.jpg
Sorta hard to tell, but it now points down, and the shifter cable is installed properly. All ill do is wrap the cable in some heatproof tape as it sits basically on the new brass fitting.

Take it easy mate!
It's probably just a small s/c with a big pulley on it so it makes low pressure, pretty sure having fmic would kill such low boost though, but that about is just about perfect for an atmo engine and not needed a rebuild to cope with the stress or needed a rebuild from someone getting excited and winding the wick up - that's the good thing about s/chargers i rekon, they're relatively set and safe, you can't just dial in more boost.

WELL Did some more things today, not to the engine but well other bits and piece I've been meaning to do
Started getting the new bootlid ready, so put on the existing barrel, took the old garnish off which I'll prep tonight for repainting (stuffed it up the 1st time i did it years back) and sound deadened it.
Also ran the wires properly to the LED brake light for the wing and i have hidden them, nothing ****s me more then messy wiring, which unfortunately, i did alot of.
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a52/dodgeviper89/Sounddeadning1.jpg
And yeah, another thing which SHAT ME ever since i got these rims is one was always a different color to the rest, and whoever had them before me had sprayed over the rims with $2 clearcoat for some STUPID reason, so it had gone yellow and started peeling and looked poo
Got some qoutes on powdercoating/painting and i was up for $320 for all 4 either way...no chance!
$15 on a can of engine enamel, and 3 sheets of sandpaper and they look wicked now.
Probably should clear them aswell but i cbf they look fine now.
took me like 3? hours, just a light sand and about 4 coats, best thing about engine enamel is it doesnt require priming, so just build up the layers and it all comes one color....
love it

4L tin from supercheap mate.
Yeah those barrels are a wog thing, nannus gets em for free, has them all hooked up so one flows into another, 2800L in total of water in those things!
Ollie, all i used was bog, just bog up the gutter rash (well it'll only work if your gonna repaint the whole rim) sand it till its smooth and paint the rim, i guess if you could find the exact paint your rim is in now it MIGHT work but wont look the same as being all done.

And how close it came to fitting, Either needs spacers, or for the metal piping to be extended by about 15mm....15mm!!! not bad for something out of a completely different car!
Considering the block sits higher etc i thought it would be way off but i can bolt the rear head completely together ;)

If you are using your old 3.0L exhaust then the difference in deck height of the 3.5 is the main reason for the 15mm difference in exhaust length. I had a similar gap when I upgraded to a SOHC 3.5.

They are (well were) brand new KYB Excel-G's only 15K old. One side was fine the shocker stayed up, but on the passengers side the shock would fall back in and it took me AGES to eventually get the whole assembly put back together as everytime i would go and put the top plate back on it would just push the shock down...
The other side was fine though
I knew my bumpstops were rooted but i didn't think they were THIS rooted, probably originals I'm guessing.

I've saved quite a bit this week though in relation to what I usually earn/spend. Its different anyway, Can't really say its fun like im gonna go into work hopping and skipping but yeah its different

I wouldn't really base an apprenticeship on a wage just make sure you enjoy it. I've been paid nothing for 3yrs but its where i end up...
Also I guess you'll be too tired to bother spending money paul. Also i'd say you'll soon have someone to help you wire this thing up properly when it doesnt work as planned lol (you know what i mean).

dude its not that hard being poor, you just gotta know how to save money, last yr while studying full time i was living off youth allowance, $350 a fortnight, paying $100 a week rent, running a car, paying for food, phone internet and other bills. Still managed to have a social life. You just ogtta realise if you do it hard for a bit it will all turn around and start rolling in soon after

Yep, your lifestyle adapts to how much you earn... the more you earn, the more you spend... the less you earn the more you're aware of how to budget to get by

**** you......didnt see that comment
Today wired up the oil pressure light into the dash (hope i got the right wire there..), the starter motor, which was easy as that was stock wiring and gave an ignition feed from the fusebox to the alternator.
So next on the list is the wire coming off the power steering, wire up the low battery light to the alternator, and get the fuel pump wire to the relay.
gettin' there bit by bit

Yeah for sure man :D
Did some work today on the car which was good for a change!
Hooked up the thermo fan to the relay, and traced back the fuel pump wire and hooked that up to the relay aswell.
Basically thats it in terms of engine wiring...
Theres only now instrument lights I need to wire up (I hope...)
Fixed my boot up with the new CCFL Tube (Recessed into the bootlid better, not stuck on a ruler lol) Whacked 2 of the 19"s back on, Put my air Chrome CAI and pod on, degreased more of the undercarriage and started to clean up the SOHC on the stand.

I'm going to redo them (piss easy) But only because this was my 1st attempt at them and i did a hack job.
They will still look the same only this time be waterproof, I like the soft black outlining IMO!
All the wiring will be tidied up (i.e. shortened or lengthened) once engine is running and all bugs have been ironed out.
For now it'll look like crap.
But umm yeah just gotta make up a bracket for the fusebox and got a small list of things to do before shes running.
If any of you are thinking about running your CAI like that, try and do it! Get a replacement battery tray and mount the fusebox on the side where the stock air filter goes (fusebox does not need to have wires cut, simply moved!) I hate the stock location of the fusebox it really crams up the engine bay, under it is just empty space!

You cant do much man. Thats how it is, Comes out of the firewall and bends around, If you can think of another alternative I'd like to hear it!
Yeah peter, goes right down below the battery tray where a piece of flexi pipe attaches to the end and grabs some air from below (like 12" of pipe though)
